An art exhibition of all winners in the Lee Strand Milk Art Competition was officially opened in the new Library and Information Resource Centre (LIRC), North Campus at the Institute of Technology Tralee, Co. Kerry on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010. The exhibition features the artwork of the overall winner ‘Mighty Mikey Milk Lee Strand’ created by Roisin Lynch, Fifth Class, St Brendan’s NS, Fenit, the ten regional winners, the eight class winners and the special achievement award winner. The exhibition also includes a display of the Lee Strand Milk cartons featuring the regional winners’ artwork which are now available in stores in Kerry and West Limerick. The exhibition is open to the public at the following times: 9:00am-5:00pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday and 9:00am-8:00pm Tuesday & Thursday. The artwork demonstrates the endless talents and creativity of primary school children. I have no doubt that their success in this competition will encourage them to develop their talents further’. John O’Sullivan, General Manager, Lee Strand stated ‘The art exhibition at the Institute of Technology Tralee is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the winners’ artwork to the public. It will provide much enjoyment and pride for the winners’ school, family and friends’.
Background Information Entry guidelines for the Lee Strand Milk Art Competition were to ‘Design & Name the New Lee Strand Mascot’, while completing the following slogan ‘Lee Strand milk is good for you because…’ The art competition received 2,131 entries from primary schools in the Kerry and West Limerick region. The overall winner Roisin Lynch, Fifth Class, St. Brendan’s NS, Fenit won the top prize of €1,000 for her school. Roisin also received a Genesis sculpture to mark her achievement, a €100 cheque and two framed copies of her winning mascot. The regional winners, class winners and the special achievement award winner also received €100 each and two framed copies of their artwork.
